The Light of the Distant Star
by Farida Samekhanova

The blue shining star,
Cold and remote,
Fascinates me.
I can feel its power.

I am too far away,
Standing in my backyard,
Unable to enjoy
Its tender warmth.

The distant star in the night
Is inaccessible and
Irresistibly attractive,
Just like you.

Farida Samekhanova lives in Toronto, Ontario. English is her third language after Tatarian and Russian. She is the head of a big family: four generations reside under one roof. She plays chess, collects coins and skates.
